Riverstone Grill

The thirtieth day of the fifth month in the two thousand fourteenth year in the sixth year of Obama we departed on an Adventure to the Grand Island of Grand Island. But in all seriousness, we ate some food, as we are commonly known to do.

Sadly, one of our comrades was missing tonight because of some prior obligations but we did enjoy the company of a special guest stud, Justin, and went out as C.A.J.E. for the evening instead of C.A.K.E.

We enjoyed a lovely drive into the restaurant, which is nestled in a bend in the Niagara River and, upon arrival, were promptly shown to a table in the small dining room. We had been given the opportunity to sit at the bar but thought it was a little too rowdy for our liking. French posters decorated a mostly simple but elegant black and white décor and the candle in the middle of the table added a romantic flair.

Our waitress, Arlene, (who looked somewhat like Keira Knightly) was very friendly and helpful and kindly listed for us the specials of the evening. Our taste buds were enticed by homemade potato chips and a dip that we determined to be a mix between french onion and ranch but which had a very thick, cream cheesy texture. After one bite of the coconut-crusted shrimp, we inquired among ourselves at the possibility of fresh coconuts from a coconut tree behind the restaurant. We imagined a young boy, chopping coconuts in the back all day long, all for the delicious coconut-crusted shrimp. The shrimp was accompanied by a sauce, which combined the perfect mixture of every possible flavor-spicy, sweet, and tangy (and a little sour and salty).

I, Aimee ordered the Classic BBQ plate, which consisted of half a rack of ribs, pulled pork, sweet pot fries (potato) and cole slaw (cole to the slaw). Um, it was tasty, I don’t know it was good (I don’t know what to say about it) I was not disappointed in my selection. (I happen to like salt!) The BBQ was tangy and sweet-spicy! It was good. The meat from the ribs fell off the bone-so tender and juicy!

Justin sized up the one-pound philly burger topped with caramelized onions peppers, provolone cheese and a delicious garlic-mayo spread. He decided to attempt to fulfill his dream of eating a one-pound burger. Upon the burger’s arrival, Justin was taken aback by the sheer size of the burger. He exclaimed: “Does anyone have a masher for this burger?” because the burger could not fit in his mouth. The first bite was extremely messy and greasy but was oh-so delicious (it’s like I’m reliving it). The smoky flavor of the burger combined with the sweet notes from the onions and cheese began a party in Justin’s mouth. As the meal went on, Justin discovered ways to eat the burger without making a complete mess and thoroughly enjoyed his experience.

I, (Liz) didn’t even have to read the menu because the waitress sold me on the salmon right from the beginning (plus I’m watching my cholesterol-I need the Omega3’s). The only negative thing was that it did not come with fries, but a squash medley (which means squash and some rice). It was a very healthy meal. It was a very nice meal if you don’t like feeling stuffed. It was very light, but filling meal-perfect.

Courtney opted for a comforting penne pasta dish with grilled chicken, spinach, and artichoke hearts in a creamy garlic sauce. The dish was a perfect blend of every element, having a large amount of chicken and artichoke hearts and topped off with shaved Parmesan cheese. The garlic sauce did not overwhelm the dish in flavor or in quantity and there were plenty of leftovers to take home in a box for later.

Though a relatively more expensive outing, we would recommend the Riverstone for anyone from a group of friends going for a casual night out to a couple looking for a more intimate setting. The delicious food and the friendly service makes the Riverstone Grille a fantastic dining spot in the Western New York Area.
