The Hollow

This evening brought us to The Hollow Bistro and Brew in Clarence Hollow NY where the maître d’ delighted us with his wit and Perrier (which Aimee rejected, and which Katie continued to call “fancy water” for the remainder of the evening). The small but quaint room was decorated simply with romantic lighting and white flowers and the music was on point (and even groovy as James and Evan our guest eaters pointed out). Reservations are recommended as this is a small area but it is well worth the experience. Fresh, warm bread and butter was served and quickly disappeared (perhaps due to the excessive partaking some cake members exhibited). The menu was not very extensive, consisting of only two pages of main dishes, but everyone enjoyed their meals and the dishes had appropriate portions. Several of us ladies took out boxes of leftovers to be enjoyed at a later time.

Courtney had Linguine Jumbalaya. It was very flavorful but if you don’t do well with spicy foods, stay away!

James enjoyed the Caprese Chicken which was a good blend of vegetables, chicken with mozzarella, spinach and tomatoes on a bed of risotto soaked in a creamy sauce.

Liz had the delectable salmon BLT. The bread was very fresh and each flavor stood out as its own. It was served with some sort of vinaigrette and fresh lettuce.

Aimee consumed the open-face steak sandwhich which was not quite what she expected but was ok. It was cheesy, which was nice but not overwhelmingly good in her opinion.

Evan devoured the Hollow Signature burger with bacon, blue cheese, and a fried egg on a pretzel bun. There were too many strong flavors involved but it was a very satisfying and filling meal overall.

Katie chowed down on the char-grilled salmon with risotto and beurre. It was creamy and delicious…The vegetables were not the highlight of the meal but the salad that accompanied the entrees was excellent.

They also had lots of good options for dessert and special coffee drinks but we did not sample any, unfortunately.

All in all we would recommend this restaurant for a slightly more formal night out.

“You can always tell it’s a good restaurant by the quality of the side salads.” ~Katie
